
On 12 and 13 March 2024, the Final Event of the DIGITOUR Project was successfully organised in Sofia, Bulgaria, by the Work Package 5 Leader – Consulting Cluster Veritas, marking the official conclusion of this EU-funded initiative focused on the digital transformation of tourism SMEs across Europe.
The two-day event gathered tourism and digital experts from 12 European countries, project beneficiaries, cluster and network representatives, and policymakers to reflect on the outcomes of nearly 30 months of collaborative work, exchange lessons learned, and explore opportunities for future joint actions and scaling of the project’s impact.
Project retrospective and achievements
The first day of the event (12 March) focused on an in-depth retrospective of the project’s activities. Presentations highlighted the findings from the studies on digital readiness in tourism, showcased key resources and tools created within the project, and shared practical insights from the voucher implementation process. Participants heard firsthand from both SMEs and consortium members, offering an honest and valuable overview of the journey and the impact.
Key results achieved:
- 166 tourism SMEs applied to the Call for Proposals
- €470,000+ in financial support distributed
- 140 SMEs from 14 countries received funding
- 105 digital innovation projects implemented
- 20 collaborative Voucher II projects supported (including 5 cross-border)
- 85 Voucher I projects completed
- 280 digital providers participated in the Open Call
- 31 national and international events organised
- 68 training tools and courses mapped and shared
- 10 national and EU networks reached
- 5,482+ participants engaged
- 9 public-private partnerships established
DIGITOUR at Holiday & Spa Expo

On 13 March, the event took place within Holiday & Spa Expo 2024, where DIGITOUR hosted a Networking Zone. Beneficiaries and digital providers presented services and tools developed through the project.
Success stories from Bulgaria, Italy and Serbia were shared and inspired the audience with ideas for future cooperation.
Notable contributors included:
- Mr. Alan Vella, Project Adviser at EISMEA, presented EU support for the digital and green transition of tourism SMEs.
- Ms. Svetlana Borisova, from Europe Direct Vratsa, outlined current funding opportunities in tourism and creative industries.
